Scorched engine paint
I've noticed that about a year after putting a 460 in my truck the paint on the intake and on the heads around the exhaust ports has burned off. It only seems to be on the center cylinders though. Anybody else seen this?
I wondered if it was burnning too lean, or something else I should be concerned about. I thought engine paint would stand up better.

I have it on all of mine and didn't think anything of it. The paint I used is only good to 500F though. You may not be burning your fuel as effiently on the other cylinders. But this is just a guess.

the area exhaust ports is burning. this is a common thing. nothing wrong. just hot exhaust gases. this also happens with the 2.9l. the best way for it not to happen, is to paint the area underneath it with bbq paint before you paint the heads. no fear, it isn't a problem..
