air intake

On my 89 ranger im making a custom intake, i boght a k&N air filter (cone style) that will fit the intake tube thing, ive already got the whole ything worked out in my head except there is 2 small tubes that atacth to the box in which the stock air filter is, i dont know where they lead to and i cant figure out a way to hook them up to my soon to be custom intake, are these tubes important, what do they do, do i need them or can i just pinch them and tape them off, please help me. Thank you

air intake

I had an 88 Bronco II with a 2.9 V6 and I disconnected those 2 wires and had no problems.

There for the warm air thing, it allows warm air from the exhaust manifold area to enter the intake during startup. No probelm removing, just make sure you cap the port at the manifold.
