94 ranger, abs and brake light on.

Went back and checked everything, Adjusted rear brakes and now she works great. Suspect self adjusters screwed up. Thanks for the help.

Okay, maybe you can help me with mine.

One day I was coming up to a left hand turn. I was going about 40 approaching it and we got a left arrow. So I'm cool. But as I approach the intersection, the lady is just setting there. We have a left turn arrow, but she's not moving... I'm getting closer and closer and pretty soon, I realize, this @#$%#@$ isn't going.

So I hit the brakes hard. VERY HARD. I have Perf. Friction all around and the rabs did it's job, and I stopped with less than 1" to spare, but I aged 10 years in that moment.

Anyways, the "brake" light came in instantly. After I got to where I was going and back to the truck, the light was off. I thought "okay, just one of those things..." Until I hit the brakes. Just normally. Then it comes on. Everytime I restart the truck, the lights off. Until I hit the brakes for the first time. Then it's back on.

So.... I've checked the fluid and it's fine. I've also checked the wiring I can see from above. Seems fine. So where is this abs thing? Should I just replace it and hope? Oh, and the abs is NOT working. I can lock of the rears anytime I want.

I need to get it working again.

Thanks!

Did you check the rear brakes, look for a sticking MC float. What year, is it RABS or 4wABS?

It's a 94. Its' Rear wheel only abs.

When you say "sticking MC float" I assume you mean master cylinder. But where is there a float?

thank you for replying.

There is normally a level float in the master cylinder, they sometimes get sticky with age, make sure it's not hanging up.

Ok, THANKS TO bhm00 for starting this thread, and THANKS to Ken for the advice. It worked great, however, I am receiving an error code 16. My chiltons manual says the ABS light should never blink 16 or more times. I e-mailed Ken already, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?!?!? Also, the ABS light keeps running thru the check whenever it comes on...if anyone else has any thoughts on this or, a solution I would greatly apperciate it. I don't want to have to shoot my truck and buy a horse...

Check you email.

FYI for everyone, older RABS system should not get a code 16, on newer ones it's a pass code, I'm not sure of the exact year this was changed.

Sane thing happened to my 94 ranger. Had to slam on the braked and after that the abs and brake light kept coming on. Turns out it is the abs valve in the rear pumkin ball. Since that was replaced never had the trouble again.

The VSS is a common failure but I don't think that would cause his problems.
