Squeak in rear breaks
Im looking for some feed back on this and hopefully it will fuel the answer.
Moms car, a 97 Buick Regal, rear breaks squeak, So I took of the wheel to see what I could see,
pads look like they had meat on them,
Rotor had life in it.. no reason for the squeak..
soo took of the caliper, and looked at the pads themselves..
It appears that when the pads make contact with the rotor, about 1cm of the pad is outside the rotor, so the edge of the rotor is digging into the pad, assumably causing the squeak. For months, no sounds, then a month ago is was slowly creeping up, and now, even with the windows up and the radio on, I can hear it...
Why would this be?
Dose that make sense or do I need to explain it some other way?
Found this odd... dont really know much about breaks, but can do the basic change pads and rotor, just dont know how to solve this issue..
Hopefully someone else will help you out more....good luck!
Most pads (I don't know about newer chebbiethings) have wear indicaters built in. They are thin metal strips that meet the rotor at a 90 degree angle and make a godawful noise. They don't hurt the rotor, but they will get the car to a mechanic before the pads are worn down to steel.
Good luck, Mike
