Quads

I touched on this in my other thread, but. I have an '04 Supercrew with a Weathergaurd 20" single lid black powdercoat on the rail toolbox. My big question is does anyone have a toolbox on a screw and haul a quad? Will it still fit? I am 71" from toolbox to end of tailgate.

I am looking at getting a quad soon and hoping it will fit..

Even though I have an 8' and dont have that problem, a couple of friends have 6.5' beds without tool boxes and haul quads. Depending on brand of quad and truck some will actually fit with the tailgate closed and the ones that wont are close.

Bottom line the quad will have to touch the toolbox and the rack will be over the back of the tailgate, but the tires should be firmly on the tailgate.

Maybe you should consider a 4X8 trailer for your quad, if you drive on a gravel road with the tailgate down you wont like the results.

To help you out, I just went and measured my YFZ 450 from the front bumper to the center of the rear tire. It measured out a tad under 65", so you will be able to easily fit most sport quads in your bed with the tailgate down. Some quads like the DS650 Bombardier and KFX 700, may not though. They are a good 5-6" longer than most other sport quads. Anything like the YFZ 450, 450R, 250R, Banshee, Z400, KFX400, 400EX, ect will be fine. Going into a BIG utility quad like a Grizzly may be pushing it.

That will be very tight. I'm looking at the Z400 or KFX400, a Predator 500, or a TRX400EX. All being very similar in size.

What are you getting at with the gravel road and not liking the results? Will it fall out or what? What is the BAD result? Also I don't have a small trailer, but do have an 18' car trailer that will haul a few quads ands will be used when there are a few of us going.

I think he meant rocks and debris hitting the tailgate when its down.

I have a banshee and use a utility trailer. Its so much easier than trying to put it in the bed. Now that I lifted it (my truck of course) I can't see myself getting it back there.

I dont see any problems fitting a "regular" sport quad in the bed. I have extended A arms and an extended swing arm and rear axle, so I dont think mine would fit anymore.

Your best bet is a trailer...plus you can still use the bed for coolers and gas cans, etc...

Exactly, rock will fly up and hit your tailgate. As for the the quad, I was taking about some of the big utility quads like a polaris 500 or Arctic Cat 500. They should fit, but again a small trailer from Home Depot or Lowes for about $500 is the right thing. With my 8' bed I can fit my son's Cat 90 and my 400 and have the tailgate about 3/4 of the way up. It was ok but I feel better with mine on the little trailer and my son's on the truck though.
