I made a score yesterday! '88 5.0, with all EFI components, headers, flywheel/clutch (brand new) T-5, computer with aftermarket chip, and engine wiring harness...all for 150 bucks! If I want the rest of the car, I can have it for 35 bucks more. Storage for it while I strip it is the only problem, and there's not much left that I can use for the swap. I need to tear the motor down and check it, he said it ran well but the oil pressure was a little low. Even if I have to put a crank kit in it, I'm still bucks ahead. Going to tear into it today. The 2.9's still running well enough for now, so I can gather all the parts I need and put this together at my leisure. I can hardly wait! -TD
Tore it down today, it does need a crank kit but the cylinders look great, you can still see the factory crosshatch all the way down the bores, there's only about .018-.020 end gap on the rings, pistons show very little sign of wear. I don't think I need to bore it, but I'll mike it for taper next week to be sure. I'm as exited as a puppy facing his first fire hydrant! -TD
Wow tiger, thats one heck of a score. I wish I could come across something like that , my ranger is approaching the 200K mark, and it's looking to crap out on me, but I am praying it will at least wait until the summer when I head back home from college, but for now, I'm piecing it back together praying it holds up, started whistling yesterday, thinking its the power steering pump, so yeah, its beginning Would love to do the 5.0 swap, if only I could score like that, lol. Good find
Well, I went ahead and dropped the other 35 bucks for the whole car, so now I guess I have a Mustang again. Too bad it's a pile. I'll just strip it right on the trailer when I pick it up, and haul the remains straight to the wrecking yard. -TD
I already have a mustang for a donor with a 350hp 302 in it but I love the car even though I dont have it running at the moment. And it would be a shame to do the swap and lose all the warranty since it is a 2004 with 10,000 miles on it.
