ok I need help (oh I can see the comments from the peanut gallary now) Just got a new project to play with,(like I need another project) and it has a D20 transfer case. The problem starts with I can't remember anything about these, like shift pattern but when I shift left-up it's 4hi, left-down 4lo, and I thought that rt-up should be 2hi, but it's 2hi front wheel drive only I didn't know you could do that with this transfer case. So what is the shift pattern, and/or what is wrong, or am I missing. So help me out before I get mad, and shove a big block with a C6-np205 into it. it's supposed to be my new daily driver, but I don't drive front wheel drive vehicles
Oh yea I already posted this in the tranny section, and got no responses, and only one person even looked at it so thought I would bring here to the experts
If it is an early Bronco, they have two different shift patterns the earlier one is 4hi, 2hi, N, 4lo going from rear to front the later is known as the j shift , starting from the forward position its 4lo,N,4hi and then push shifter to the right and back up for 2hi. as a side note- if its an early Bronco you just got, I will be over to get it from you shortly. If not, stop wasting my time!!!
well I actually got a 84 ranger mounted on an early bronco frame, with a 289? auto with the D20 transfer case, and having trouble figuring out how to make it work in 2 hi, and actually use the rear wheels. so sorry not really an early bronco, just early bronco running gear
I had a dana 20 years ago that was doing weird things and after fighting with it for a few hours, I took the plate off the bottom and looked to see what was going on inside and discovered that one of the set screws for the shift fork had come loose, letting the shift rail just slide inside the fork. What year is your T-case?????? If you cant get anything figured out, I have several Dana 20's, we could do some cheking with one that is out of a vehicle to maybe find some answers. If you do run across an earlyBronco for sale that is decent and reasonably priced let me know .
not real sure on the year of the transfer case, supposedly this was a 68 running gear, but I have no idea what has been changed, for instance I know the rear end isn't origanal as it has a 3.00:1 gears, and the front is 3.50, so know I have to change that out. May have to check the shift forks like you are saying. I sent you an email also.
