Unhappy When is enough really enough?

Well my f150 and I have been thru alot together. Going to the deep hole, nights at Tim Hortons, trails and even alittle rock climbing that wasn't good at all. lol. But thru everything it seems like I just keep replacing parts and replacing parts....and...yep more parts. I don't even wheel anymore. I drive normally on the pavement and well it seems like things keep going wrong. I don't know if I want to keep the truck anymore, seems like the price of gas has me strangled here and although i get like 12-14 MPG I can't seem to find any other car/truck I'd like to buy. I really like the ford body style more than the chevy/GMC's, but it seems like those trucks work alot better than what I've got. More power, better ride, better fuel economy maybe? They have their problems too, but they are few and far between.

I dunno I just think that I've done so much work to her it'd be hard to let her go. We'll see how this winter goes. I've got some little junior studded tires to put on so my milage might go up. When do you call it quits guys? I've got about 4 grand into it right now, plus the purchase price. Did I get a lemon?

I feel the same way...It's not my truck, its my dad's, but he "let me have it". But i have quite a few parts to replace or fix. From U-Joints to EGR crap. I really want to make the truck look nice, but its kinda hard when I goto school, work, and spend money on replacement parts. Not to mention that thanks to one of the trucks problem, i get around 8-9mpg ! .

Man I feel your pain. Here's what I've done so far.
Front u-joints
Rear end spyder gears and clutch kit
alternator
brakes all around
New Clutch assembly
Spindles
Hubs
Wheel Bearings
Ball Joints
New exhaust (really at my expense)

Next to go in is a new fuel pump and fuel filter. Some things are just maintenance but stupid stuff like fuel pumps and spindles are just dumb.

Oh it needs a new flange-type yoke which I can't find anywhere and 2 new leaf springs. Oh also needs body work. I'm glad I have a mechanic that doesn't rip me off.

Gotta love ford eh? Man that's a long list.....

Well, I guess this can happen to any old truck. I've been driving this truck since I was 16 two years ago. I can say the problems have gotten worse and worse.

When you say flange type yolk do you mean the 1 attached to the rear pinion? If so I just bought a brand new 1 from my local ford dealer for $26. I can relate to your pains as well, but I've always had at least 2 trucks and currently 4. I know, not very practicle, my wife feels the same way! But what you've done so far is quite alot to give up. Especially, if like me, you can't afford a brandy-new 1 with a warranty. My philosophy is why buy someone elses junk when I know the junk I have! And some parts and some work are more practicle for me than a $500 a month payment! Hang in there and plunder this sight for all of your woes!

I know a lot of people can't afford to do this, but whenever i buy a used vehicle that I plan on keeping, I look for one that is about a grand less than I have to spend. The day I get it home the garage is covered in truck and I'm at the parts store the next day carrying boxes of crap out to said truck and there the next day for the stuff that had to be ordered. That way I get all the stuff out of the way within a week and can just drive it after that. Having said that, I'm off to replace the e-brake cable union that pulled through yesterday

I don't know about that idea tho man, if it were me I'd want something an old fellow had. They don't abuse their vehicles like kids do. It's all good if you can find one that says "lots of new parts". Yes I am looking for the pinion yoke. I called some junkyards and I think I'll call the dealer on monday. Thanks guys.

I know just how you feel Moose... seems like everyhting on my truck is falling apart one after the other. But 3 layoffs in just as many years have left me with not being able to afford anything newer, not that I don't love my truck, I'm just having a hard time affording it.
