'51 f1 build issues

Hey guys I'm new here so here goes, I am building a 51 f1, I installed a volare front end and trying to intsall a triangulated four link. Anybody have tips, tricks, parts or pics on installing a 351w, I got engine mounts from horton's and seems like the engine is too far back and no room to go foward fan might hit the rad. Also on the four link doesn't seem like it's going well I never seen pictures of one installed on a 51 so I don't know if I'm on the right track, seems like the truck is too high it is also from horton's measurments would be great also. Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Welcome to the forum!!!!

You've come to the right place.

The inner fenders have 2 sets of holes for the radiator mount.....try the forward holes!

As for the rear.....when you can use the search function, you'll see plenty of examples.

There's plenty of room in the engine compartment to fit any SBF engine, especially front to back. If you could be a little more specific about your issues, or perhaps share pics, we might be able to provide better advice. I've never messed with a Mopar clip so that might create all kinds of different issues I'm not aware of, but we can still toss some ideas around for you.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Good job on the pic's. Do ya have the other set of holes to mount the radiator in? or are you already in the holes the farthest out from the engine?

Thanks arctic y block. Already using the holes towards the grill, I am thinking of mounting the rad in front of the support. If that works I just have too find a way to mount engine mounts, another thing does anybody know what kind of headers would fit seems pretty tight on drivers side. thanks

From those pics, it looks like you have plenty of room at the firewall. You can probably use a fan spacer shorter than the 2" one you have there, and if you aren't running a/c, you can lose a sheave from your crank pulley, too, for even more fan clearance. But really, the fan is in the prime location for best air pull. You want it to be about an inch/inch and a half from the core. Just enough room to get the bolts in. Bottom line is, you've got lots of room.

I went through the same thing recently. I opted to give the bell housing some clearance from the cab. I had to drop the tail end of the trans a little. That avoided cutting the firewall or making a bigger trans cover. The front is close to the radiator. The 351w that I have is out of an 89 F150. The clutched fan just wasn't going to fit. I ended up leaving the fan off and going with an electric fan setup. It is an out-of-the-box unit with a thremostatic control. It only comes on if the engine is idling for a long time at a stop light.

Here's what it looks like:

Oh...and by the way...welcome to the forum! I do like your engine choice!

I have heard that Mustang header work. But don't quote me on that. The Guys will prolly tell ya in a bit when they get passed the mound and clearance issues. We can only get so much in our heads at a time before it overloads.

Hey Lorts,
Welcome Aboard!
We've got a 351W installed in a 1950 F1. It does get tight on the driver's side with steering column & up front by the radiator. We also used a very slim electric fan & after market radiator. We've got a Mustang II type front end so the motor mounts will look different but I've got a few pics that might help.
