replacing fuel filter in 2002 Ranger?

Anyone have a diagram and/or instructions on changing the fuel filter in a 2002 Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 5MOD? I have 45000 miles on it and want to replace the fuel filter, but have never done this before. There is no mention or diagram in the owners manual and I don't believe there is a Haynes out yet for the 2002 Ranger, is there? Anyway, if anyone has instructions or a diagram for replacing the fuel filter that they would like to share, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks! (oh...on the READ FIRST: Technical info forum page, there is a link for 2002 fuel filter replacement, but it actually links to an entirely different link about removing the door panel, so the answer isn't on that page, which is why Im asking now).

Go back to the Tech info page and look at the link for fuel filter change on 1999. I think it should apply to your 2002 also. GET THE TOOL!!! O'Reilly Auto Parts sells one for $7, a little red one.

Are you sure you need the tool? I have a 2000 3.0L and did not need a tool. After relieving the fuel system pressure: removed plastic "kick plate" on passenger right foot side, disconnected wire clip to fuel relay, started truck until it died, and then removed fuel cap.

Removed nut connecting fuel filter assembly to rail and "popped" off two clips on two of the lines to/from fuel filter (one on front one on back). On the other line on the back of the fuel filter just press on the bottom of the fitting with your finger or a small screwdriver and it will release and you can then pull the filter off.

You will need 2 new "clips" for the reinstallation of the new filter. The new filter does not come with them. Go to the help section of the auto parts store and look for Ford fuel filter clips or ask the counterperson.

I'm not saying you don't need the tools; just saying you might not. I bought the set at Autozone myself and then found out I didn't need them. The "procedure" for relieving the fuel system pressure was found in the owner's manual in the emergency section I believe where it says if you are in a wreck or fender bender and your truck will not restart to check the fuel relay by resetting the button on top (pressing it back in).

The manual for my 01 says to not use any tools. I haven't done mine yet. To tool or not to tool, that is the question.

See thar I go talking about something I know not about. I have a '99 and have to use the "tool" to release the lines off the filter, yes after relieving the fuel pressure. Maybe they've changed since then.
