Got it........... It was a couple of broken wires one for the unlock and one for the windows. I never got to the 12v test, while digging the wires out of their bundle and identifying the ones that I was looking for, I gave them a tug and out they came. I was able to feed and splice some new sections of wire into the flexable boot and we are back in business....
I owe you big time, 87XLT, next time you are in Alaska let me know. We will have to find you a salmon.... my email is: nabesnahousebb@yahoo.com
Thanks again,
Gary
Good deal, glad to hear it's fixed. I just might take you up on your offer, it's been awhile since i've been on a good fishing trip.
My most memorable fishing trip was a few years ago when friend/Mike & I were a couple miles of the coast of San Pedro, Cal in our little 14 foot runabout. Mike decide he wanted to drive, but as he was crawling over the center section of the boat, he rolled off & into the Pacific ocean. As he was pulling himself back in over the transom he almost sank us. So we get up to speed, yank the transom plugs to drain the water & head for the Reef restaurant/Long Beach -with floating dock- where Mike worked as a bartender. He gets dry clothes out of his locker, a couple of mixed drinks and a pack of smokes. As he's approaching the boat, I turn around to pull start the Evinrude and when I turn back around I yell DONT step on the bow. But OOPS, i was a little bit late with that one, the bow of the boat along with Mike & my gin & tonic all went under water for the second time that day.
The fishing is pretty good down here also, so let me know if you ever plan a trip down in this area.
I have a 97 Explorer with the same type of problem. I'll check the same things that you have mentioned but here's a run down of my situation. You may have some other advice. My driver side unlock switch will not unlock the doors but will lock them. The rest of the door switches work fine. None of my windows will go down. They messed up occassionally but then they just went out all together. If there was something wrong with the d/side door controlls would that prevent the rest of the windows from working correctly? I did unplug the d/side controlls and the other door controlls still didn't work, so is that suppost to happen or is there something else wrong? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks...

The power windows are wired from power dist. box fuse 5/30 amp maxi fuse to the accesory delay relay & then to the driver side window switch on light blue/black stripe. If the fuse is OK & theres no voltage on light blue/black stripe behind the driver side kick panel the problem is probably a bad accesory delay relay. BTW all window switches receive their voltage from the drivers switch. If there is voltage on the wire, it's probably open in the door jamb from flexing when door is opened & closed.
Thanks 87 XLT for the advice. I just now got back from checking the wiring that goes through the door after another person had suggested it. I fount that blue/black wire you mentioned. It was broken along with pink/green wire. I'm glad to see that there is people on this site that know what there talking about. Thanks to all of you that replied to my postes. You saved me time and money.
Another "atta boy" for 87XLT.
I wonder how much money Ford saved by either not having long enough wires, or lowering the quality of the wires in an area that flexes like it does...
