What is this?
I have a 72 F100. Under the hood in the passenger side front corner against the fender and next to the radiator is a plastic cylinder of some sort. It is about 8-10 inches in diameter, about 4-6 inches thick, and has about a 1-inch hole in the top center. I saw one of these in a junk yard with that aluminum foil coated, accordian cardboard hose coming from the hole in the top center. What is the purpose of this thing? There is no hose on mine. Could it be that since this is not connected, it is why my truck doesn't have much power? I have a 360 with a C6 and I have no instant go when I floor the pedal. It will work up to speed but nothing instantaneous. I've rebuilt the carb, new distributor, new valve guide seals, a lot of cleaning and lots of TLC.

My 72 F-100 used to have one of those cans in the same place. If I remember right, it had a hose from the gas tank to the carb or manifold to burn excess fuel vapors purged from the tank. I got rid of it yrs ago, too ugly, and the smog people havent noticed. But I got rid of the cab tank too.
