Ok..here goes. I see mention of IDI vs. Powerstroke. First off what does IDI stand for? Please take it easy on me remember I'm new to this Diesel talk as all Ford's I've owned and currently own are and were all gas guzzlers. Second of all, what exactly does the ATS turbo add to an engine? The truck I bought has an ATS Turbo on it and I'm wondering what kind of HP and Torque this monster will have once I get her running again. Thanks Again
Hi and welcome, the idi means the engine has indirect fuel injection - the fuel is injected under pressure into a precombustion chamber (kind of a preheater) before it ignited in the main chamber for ignition. the ATS turbo system is an aftermarket system that pressurizes the air charge into the cylinders - this gives more air into the combustion to burn more fuel. If I remember correctly they will give you 22% more horsepower and 35 % more torque. Those numbers could be off, but they do ring a bell - which I keep hearing since I crashed.
Keep a good maintainance program - oil and filter and fuel filter. Test the dca of the radiator - napa has kits for this and it helps prevent cavitation erosion of the block (pin holes). Keep the glow plug system maintained and it will start well during cold winter months. When it gets too cold use the block heater for a good 2 hours before cranking. Dont crank on the starter too long - like me they are sensitive to overheat.
Good luck and enjoy the ride. Bill
