Gauges???

NEW Owner / used truck. I'm in the process of figuring out what type of Chip is in my 02 7.3 PSD. There are no gauges or LED for the Chip in the cab. What type of gauges are recommneded for a chip? And what do they read i.e; tranny temp, oil temp, air restriction, etc? Is the installation fairly user friendly? Seeking some scoop from the experienced. Tracker8 sends.

The most common Gauges are Exhaust Gas Temp, Boost, and Tranny Temp. That doesn't mean others would not be useful or even more practical, depending on how you use your PSD.

For example if you run a chip it is imperative that you have EGT monitored. Boost is interesting and can be an aid in diagnosing problems but it is somthing you can live without. Tranny temp is only essential if you tow or haul heavy loads otherwise you can do without it. If you are into high performance there are a host of other gauges but unless you are pure stock or at the most mods are limited to improved exhaust and air intake systems YOU NEED AN EGT gauge.

Thanks, need a little help on the EGT. What is this and what does it monitor. Where does it connect too? And can you purchase this locally in Auto Stores? Or special order? The PSD is stock minus the chip, which I am still having difficulties trying to find out the make and model. There is also two wires that run through a small plastic cylinder that have male prongs that connect to nothing, Cannot find the previous owner and know mechanics know what these two wires go too. Still need help. tracker8

EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature it is measured with a pyrometer probe in the exhaust system. If you are going to leave the truck stock you dont need it.

as far as the
"Two wires that run through a small plastic cylinder that have male prongs that connect to nothing"
is concerned you havent given enough information:
Where is the cylinder located
Is there a switch involved
You say "the wires run thru a cylinder" can you see the wires protruding from each end of the cylinder if so are both ends un-connected
Pictures would help
