Ford Ranger 4x4

I have a 1987 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a V-6 2.9 engine, and it runs good when it is cold or after it complety get warm, sometimes it will take a spell of surging when you drive it,it can be cold or the engine can be warm.I have replaced the TPI,AIR BYPASS VALVE,FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR,BOTH FUEL PUMPS,THE FUEL FILTER,THE MAP SENSOR,AND THE MAF SENSOR. Iwas just wanting to see if it could be caused by something that located inside the distributor, LIKE maybe the STATOR/PICK-UP COIL.THE spark plugs are all firing the way they are supposed to and are brown and gray on the electrodes. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!! THANK YOU GEORGE DOTSON

George,
Sounds like it could be a fuel problem. If this surge it a soft one. I would check the fuel pressure when this problem is occuring. If the surge is violent it could be in the ignition syst. If i am not mistaken that distr. has a hal efect switch in it. this sensor is where the ecm gets the referance siginal.

Hope this helps,
Cooter

Besides checking the fuel pressure pull the codes, run the KOEO & KOER tests.
