All possible help with purchase Please.....
Today, I think I found a "to good to be true" deal, 99' 4x4 5.4 with 76k.
*Disclaimer, I have never drove a 99 4x4 expedition before*
1. I test drove it, and the tranny feels a little weird. When gettin on it it feels like the 1-2 & 2-3 shift are long and slow, but I let off the gas a second before the shift then it hits kinda hard. Is this normal for a these, Is it the transfer case or the tranny that is causing it.
2. In the parking lot, I ran it through the transfer case. Are these shift on the fly or do they have to be in P -or- N?
3. I can hear the silonoids working, but does it take a few seconds for the indicator on the dash to show 4-Low?
4. The gear indicator is 1 notch off. Shows R but actually parked, N but actually in reverse, and so on.. (tail tell of being stolen?)
4. One of the overhead compartments is broke, I Think? The front one looks to be for sunglasses, but the one behind it doesn't have any kind of pocket, and it won't stay shut.
5. I can also tell the pass front fender has been repainted. No biggie as long as that is the extent of the repair or damage.
Is there anything else I should know, or kinda look for?
Thanx in advance,
MIKE
You can go back and forth from "A4WD" to "4HI" merely by working the switch. To engage or disengage "4LO", the vehicle must be in Neutral, the brake pedal must be pressed far enough to light the brake lights, and the vehicle must be either stopped or proceeding very slowly (< 5 MPH). You'll hear a fairly loud clunk during the process. The dashboard also has an orange light that says either "LO" or 4LO" when 4LO is engaged. Part 3 of your post describes normal behavior.
I am aware of posts regarding the gear indicator misalignment issue, but don't recall their content. Might want to do a site search.
When was the last time the trans fluid was changed?

Back one is for a garage door opener and doesn't have anything but a little (adjustable) doohickey that mashes the button when you push on the outside of the door. Once the opener is installed with velcro, you should never have to open the compartment. It should, however, stay shut. Good luck!
As to your concerns with "3. I can hear the silonoids working, but does it take a few seconds for the indicator on the dash to show 4-Low?" , mine does the same thing, it takes a second or two, and there is a definite clunk when it engages.
I replaced all of the major fluids once I purchased it in addition to spark plugs (100000 miles) and the fuel filter. Also replaced the rusted out exhaust (leaking) with a Gibson cat back and put Rancho RSX shocks on it.
Overall, I am very pleased with the Expy.
**One issue with the 99's, there is a very common oil leak from the rear passenger part of the engine header. This drips down onto the exhaust and hence smells. I tolerate it b/c the cost is way to high to have fixed. Mine doesn't leak enough oil to cause concern between oil changes, but does leave a mark on the garage.

I have been a little sarcastic in my response but I was also being truthful. What is to good to be true about a used truck w/numerous problems you have discovered before you even bought it?Regards,

why don't you feel out the group a bit before you start biting people's heads off. And while you're at it, why don't you give us all the pertinent information needed for the group to help you out. You asked for "All possible help..." but didn't give us all the info.
