Well I have had no luck with bosch plugs in my previous fords.
I really like motorcraft plugs. Autolite plugs are excellent also.
autolite dbl plat. plugs are about 3.50 each i think.
Just a word of advice dont get single platinum plugs they suck @$$ after about 5-10k miles of use.
either get a copper core autolite for like 88cents and change at 24000 miles. Or go for the dbl platinum.

Btw using all caps is like yelling please turn off the caps locks.
capslock is sorta like a baby screaming.. only ruder
Appreciate the advice - didn't intend to inflict any pain on your eye-***** with the CAPSlock, please accept my apology. PS I'm just so glad most of the time just to be able to get my computer to work that if I happen to display any lack of "email etiquette" I tend to discount it. Won't happen again sir.
Motorcraft is what is recommended obiv. because ford owns motorcraft.
I have had excellent experiences with Autolite plugs in 3 fords and an older dodge truck. (ram 50)
I liked bosch in my subara imprenza.
Bosch sucked in my taurus AND my thunderbird. I didnt bother with em in my 3rd ford . Went autolite and they were good for 5k till I traded it in on my new 2002 ranger. I'll probably check the plugs in about another 30k or so(I know about the ""100000"" mile tuneup ha).
And I will either go with motorcraft dbl plats(money allowing)
or autolite as they work great. Most Good repair shops recommend guess what... Autolite as they dont deal with the ford dealer for parts.

P.s. No problem about the capslock. I just dont like repeat offenders
Btw if you have tons of computer problems drop me an email or something. I am a A+ and MCSE certified computer tech with 5+ years in computer repair.
I would agree, who would know more what's best for a vehicle than it's manufacturer, and while I personally believe Ford makes the best truck in this solar system, they, like anything, are prone to have an 'Achille's heel' or weakness. They have lots of "better ideas" but they do raise their stock (wisely) by touting their own products, stock parts are ALWAYS safest, but maybe I think of Bosch every time I raise my hood and see the "Bosch" label on the power booster of my "Ford" brake system. I think about "Borg-Warner" when I'm under-neath and happen to glimpse my transfer-case, and though I'm sure Ford made tires at one time (maybe they still do?) I don't believe they sell them on their products. When they replaced my Firestone's they recommended or 'allowed' for several different brands - I went with the Michelins cause I've had good luck with them - I believe they are a superior brand. And I question things sometimes when I have had success with a product in a particular application yet hear someone elses experience where I have none. Not arguing, just looking to get ANY kind of performance boost I can. Thanks
Man you didn't care for my first "offense" on the "CAPLOCKS" - I'd hate to see what would happen I were a "repeat" offender. Anyway I do truly appreciate you taking the time to deal with my 'novice' questions - I'm sure I'll go with Autolite (dual or double platinums)unless I can get the Motorcraft's (again dual or doubles) for my `99 Ranger 3.0 FFV for the same price. I am seriously considering "Bosch" plugs for my mom's Subaru (`98 Forester 2.5)though the O's manual recommends NGK or Champion (both platinums) as well as a Bosch or more likely Purolator oil filter for her vehicle in that the 'Sube" has developed an annoying rattlin' cold-start knock that I have become convinced has probably been made worse by the Fram oil filter's used pretty much exclusively in this vehicle. I really thought Fram was a top-of-the-line filter - or at least used to be? Thanks again , Glenn . . . :-staun
I was joking. Capslock is just annoying because its not as legible.
As far as bosch plugs I had good luck in my subaru imprenza 2.2litre
with them. Fram sucks much butt since they were bought by allied signal(i think thats it) they even use cardboard end plates in their filters.. wow that cardboard must be tuff eh?
I normally use Pure one as they are about 5 bucks and seem pretty decent. Walmart has a supertech brand that is made by champion labs(who make k&n etc) its pretty good and costs 2 bucks.
AVOID FRAM !!!!
unless its a fram sure drain(oil plug replacement). I love those.
Rand
As far as that rattle it sounds like a bad umm leakback gasket(whatever the term is for those) on the oil filter.
Another County Heard From......
I changed out the plugs in my '98 2.5l 4 cyl at 75,000 miles. I put in Bosch Platinums, lifetime warranty, etc. At 100k miles +/- the truck started pinging and knocking. It varied with temperature and fuel grade and got progressively worse. I tried everything and it kept getting worse. After getting some advice from folks on this board I changed out the plugs again and installed the incredibly expensive MotorCraft Double Platinums. My knocking and pinging disappeared at once.
I know that these are the only plugs that will work in MY Ford motor and I'll gladly pay the extra money to keep from changing them out again.
My 4 cyl. has 8 plugs and the four on the driver's side are an absolute monster to change. Good Plugs=Less Work=Less Headaches.
Just my thoughts on it.......

Thanks again big guy. As far as the plugs I'm convinced Motorcraft is the only way to go on my Ranger. I was thinking possibly Autolite which I believe WAS an subsidiary of Ford, at least at one time, but is now affiliated with - guess who - Allied Signal! Anyway the writer after you says he had trouble with Bosch platinum (in his Ford - as many others have said !) but I've seen 'em go about 80,000 on my mother's old `86 Buick (no problems - just changed them cause I thought I should after that much mileage !) and I put a set of Bosch + 4's in my daughters Dodge - they only went 5,000 before she totaled the vehicle, so I took `em out and slapped `em in my wife's Honda. Even though they are a 'cooler' ranged plug than the vehicle calls for, they've gone 30 to 35,000 miles now with no problem. I think I'll pull that dang Fram off moms Subaru ASAP (just had spine surgery on my neck 3-4 days ago so I gotta' be careful) try a Supertech, maybe I'll lay out the big bucks for a "Pure-oil-now-Pure-oil-later". I'm tellin' ya I think Wal-Mart only puts their name on products of AT LEAST avg. quality or better! I'm tempted to say, well I'll just go ahead and say it - I think they're SuperTech oil is made by Motorcraft! (?) And I'll further go out on the limb (and probably have someone else want to kick my @$$) to say I have reason to believe that QS makes Motorcrafts motor oil - if not all of their petrol. products. Man, am I lookin' for a fight or what? Take her easy - Glenn . . . :-staun
I wouldnt worry about the autolite plugs. They work good in ford products. But if you can afford it I would definitely go with the motorcraft dbl plats.
NGK also makes a good plug. I had problems with Bosch in my 92 2.3 Ranger. Lot's pinging, etc... The NGK's took care of it right away and it ran awesome.
The Bosch plugs, especially the +4's and the likes, get the combustion chamber too hot. If you have any carbon build up, as happens in older motors, the carbon can smolder and cause preignition. The engine retards the timing to compensate and there goes your power. I would suspect the motorcraft would work quite well as others have said.
If you ever installed an aftermarket chip or some other way richened the mixture, then you might be able to get benefit from the hotter plugs. Otherwise prolly not.
