Has anybody recently purchased and assembled a new bed and tailgate kit from Mar-K, Horkey's, Pro's-Pick, or Dan Carpenter??? I am needing to place my order very soon as the cab to project "TYMNBUX" is nearly done. I plan to use the smooth tailgate, hidden hinge,no chains,no pockets, stock fenders/running boards. Any input--Pros/Cons welcome. Concerns are: Gauge,USA made??,clarity of instructions, straightness of panels, etc., and value not cost. Thanks.
Have you checked Northern Classic Trucks? I've heard nothing but good things about them. USA made as far as I know, and slightly thicker gauge than original (for '52's anyway). Very reasonable prices, too. A complete (VERY complete, everything but fenders) bed for the 52 is around $1200 delivered 1200 miles away.
I have a Northern Classic bed that I purchased about six months ago. I am in the auto body business and can tell you for a fact that these beds are of high quality. They are made of a heavier gauge steel than the other companies that I checked out and are nice people to deal with. I would highly recommend them.
Also purchased mine (1956) from Northern Classic. Very solid bed. Well pleased. I started going to their web site last summer and looking at their beds. I kept trying to talk myself into "biting the bullet" and spending the money and to buy a new bed. I struggled with it until about December and lo and behold they had a year end close out sale. They reduced the price by a couple hundred $$. Thats all the motivation I needed! If you are considering Northern Classic, it may not hurt to wait a month or so, or even ask them about the possibility of a year end sale. GOOD LUCK
Well, went to a lot of shows to see the beds with paint and then to dealers of all the manufacturers. After talking to owners and getting an idea of time to correct the spot welds and so forth I went with a bed/gate from Pro's Pick from Canada. The quality and finish is superb and will require only blocking prior to paint saving lots of time. The only negative was the dealer in Albuquerque. Thanks for the response.
