explorer front differential seal

I recently changed the hub on the right side 4x4.While doing so I pulled the axle out a little more than I should have.I now have gear oil leaking from around the axle.I'm guessing there is a seal in there that I messed up.Has anyone changed one? Also the gear oil level is low.Is this something I can change?Any help would be appreciated.

What year Explorer? There's a significant difference in design between '94 and older and '95 and newer.

yes there is a seal in the outboard extension from the diff and a bearing. Probably have to take the cover off or loosen it to drain the oil and refill to the plug level.

Is the 95 and up fully independant? Or is it still the monsterous double swing arm like my 91?

The "monsterous double swing arm like my 91" is referred to as a Twin Traction Beam (TTB) suspension, and was used on Explorers from '91 to '94. '95 and up use a more traditional (if there is such a thing) IFS setup using A-arms and torsion bars.

Can anyone tell me where the seal is located? When I took the hub apart it didn't pull out from inside the differential,it was about halfway to it.

you have to pull the axle right out and the seal is the first thing you will see, then the bearing.
