Hey Ivan, how are you doing crossover steering? I have a '76 F250, but I switched it over to a '78 F250 4x4 steering box. I've been thinking about going to crossover, instead of the stock configuration with the draglink going to the driver's side.

I'm wondering if it's as easy as just clocking the pitman arm 90*?

This would give me a better steering setup, as well as letting me go to hydro assist.

Cool project you have going on there...can't wait to see the progress.

Yes Chilly, the pitman arm on mine has to be clocked so it faces straight back instead of to the side. I will need a drop pitman arm to clear my crossmember properly I believe but that's not a big deal. I've got a steering arm that should be here next week. Still need to buy TRE's for it and a few feet of DOM for my drag link but that should be about it. Still need to find brake lines and come up with a few hundred bucks for shocks. The little junk really starts adding up in no time.

I can't recall the brand (Skyjacker I think), but I have a dropped pitman on my truck as well.

I was thinking of using the stock Ford tie rod for now, then make up a draglink with DOM with 1 ton Chevy TREs so it would work with all the readily available crossover arms.

I need to get in touch with West Texas Offroad to see if they can do the hydro assist on the steering box...

I know what you mean, the little stuff does add up in a hurry. I just finished off paying for the 35spl conversion, lockers, 4.88s...the list never ends.

I have a spare set of 16.5" rims and I'm seriously digging the DIY weld on beadlocks available now...there goes another $350...

I have USA6x6 double beadlocks on the way. Dan is taking longer than he was supposed to so we'll see what happens with those but they SHOULD be here next week he tells me.

I'm going to do hydro assist also, have the cylinder already. I plan to tap the box myself and save some $$. It really doesn't look that tough to do.

The SAD part is I don't have the axles regeared because I'm waiting until I can afford ARB's to do that so for the time being I'll be limping around on 3.54's.

I would love some Staz double beadlocks, but the weld ons are more in line with my budget right now. I don't see much problem with blowing both beads in my area, it's mostly mud/trails with little rock crawling to worry about.

I need to do more research on tapping the box, I really don't want to pay for the expense of shipping it to/fro a shop. I do think hydro assist is the way to fly though. I'll be locked up front so this will make life much easier...

Don't sweat the gears, that's why they made 4lo...and with 3.54s and 44's you'll be able to do 100mph at 1500rpm...there's a silver lining to everything

the good news is that when you lift the back, you'll drop a couple of inches in the front, b/c the rear is soo low..

Well my truck is not quite so "Timmaaaaay!" anymore. I lifted the back today and put the rear tires on. I have not done my shackle flip yet so I will be raising the back about another 2" which is exactly what it will need to be even with the front. It looks evil and mean now . . . just what I wanted. Yes, raising the rear did drop my front bumper about an inch so we're getting closer to where we need to be. This will be one of those rigs you never even drink 1 beer before driving. I should be getting pulled over every other block. But as long as my measurements are okay it shouldn't be a problem.

nice. it is looking better.. you still need to fix your "Timmaaaay" fender though

keeping it legal is a pain.. My beater is stock, and I never drink when I drive it

That fender is more what Pro would call "Mad Max". I have another one but I'm waiting to cut it before I get it painted and put it on. I'll also be changing the grill to a 73-77 style while I'm at it . . . plus new radiator and cooling system, tranny cooler, headlights, bumper, blah blah. This project is taking too long.

Those big shoes look killer

Yea, a little Mad Max rash never hurt anybody. It has that "go ahead and pull out in front of me...................please" vibe. I'm think Ivan could probably use some Ritalin cuz he has like five different projects going on with his truck all at the same time. Seeing as that I can barely remember where I leave my tools I'm not that ambitious

You know what, that front axle is about the same height as 90% of most other front bumpers out there. lol. And what look tougher than a multi coloured rig, the body would be in great shape, not the prettiest of trucks, but looks mean as hell.

Killer truck Ivan. Looks like a potential entry for Top Truck Challenge in four wheeler.

I agree with mustange, get the body work right and then prime/rattle can/technicolor you truck. No two matching panels type thing, then see how many people would even consider getting anywhere near you

Well I finished my temporary shackle flip tonight. The truck sits perfectly level now. Ever have one of those sureal moments where you stop mid project, look around and say to yourself "Oh my god . . . I AM a redneck!!!"? I did it tonight. Don't have any jack stands that are tall enough now. I knew that keg was useful for more than just getting stupid drunk.
