Stumped: Calling all FE Guru's

Alright heres the deal. I installed my new cam a few days ago but I cant figure something out, at the back of the block where the last cam bearing is and were the end of the cam is, theres nothing there. I can see three (oil passages?) and the end of the block surrounding the cam. Is there supposed to be a plate or plug or cover or something that goes over the rear of the cam at the back of the block? I didnt pay attention when I disassmebled it so I dont remeber anything. I just dont see how it could run with it exposed like that so my theroy is the machine shop took it off and didnt tell me.

Please help I cant figure this one out!

There is a concave soft plug that goes in that hole. It is the rear cam bearing soft plug. It covers up that hole. Make sure you install it with the rounded part facing out and DO NOT drive it in too far!

Putt has it right. It looks just like a freeze plug. It gets installed with the "sharp" edges to the inside, just the opposite of a freeze plug. I'm not sure however that you CAN drive it in too far. Doesn't it butt up against a lip on the block, Putt? I just drove mine in with a big socket until I felt it seat without distorting (flattening) the convex.

BTW, sometimes they can be a bugger to start. Be patient, and don't get upset if you have to buy a new one.

The machine shop pulled it when the tanked the block. You can also load it up and take it back to the shop for them to install the plug, if they were suposed to do that from the start... I had one installed backwards once, they made good when I brought it back.
