Smile Help ID this FE block

I just scored a 76F100 for $200 ! The body is straight, and the grill is almost perfect. The original engine was a 360. The story goes that the original owners son lunched the 360, and so they put a 2bbl 390 out of a 65. But as I look at the engine, I notice 352 on the block adjacent to the water pump on the drivers side. It also has a funky oil filter assembly that is too small to be a FL1A.

What else should I look for ? For two hundred I can't complain if it is a 352, but a 390 would be sooo nice.

Many thanks !

I'm pretty sure you will have to check stroke to determine exactly which engine you have.

The 352 on the front is common to most all FE engines and is not a casting #. am porting a set of FE heads right now in fact they should be done when I get to the shop today. I dont remember where the block # is off the top of my head. The cylinder head # can be seen if the valve cover is removed I believe I will check tonight if the guy hasnt picked them up.

Blakes7, first off, welcome aboard!

Secondly.... The 352 was common to cast on the front of the blocks, then they went to a mirrored 105. My initial thought here is that you say the oil filter is too small, let me guess, it is an upright or vertical one. With this, here is some history. The FE motor was installed with a horizontal or sideway filter in the regular 2 wheel drive trucks for clearance with the crossmember. The 4x's and cars were outfitted with the upright filters because there were no issues with the crossmembers. Unfortunately, the 4x's were not given 390's, so you could very well have a 65 vintage car 390 in there. Take a look at the "Read First" for the frequently asked questions and run through the stroke test to secure what motor you may have. The block casting numbers, if I remember correctly, can be found on the pad either by the starter or the oil filter assembly (I think that's in the FAQs too though).
