Talking 302 Conversion in 91 Explorer

I would like to know if anyone out there has completed a Ford 302 conversion into a 91/92 Ford Explorer 4 door?

Aside from buying a complete 302 EFI engine (this engine comes with all sheet metal, pulleys, distributor, ignition wires, alternator, fuel intake system, spark plugs, and oil) with appropriate new/rebuilt trans all ready to just drop in, I will be looking at up grading the radiator w/electric fans, new power stearing pump possible lines, up grade on fuel pump, new starter for the 302 and perofrmance air filter. I will most likely be removing the A/C although it would be nice to keep A/C any suggestions?
Exhaust system will start with new headers but do not know if I can run dual or will I have to run a single exhaust? If there are any short comings or any real trouble spots please enlighten me.

I have been contemplating this also on my 91. Looks like the AC evap housing is going to be in the way of valve covers, so unless you get into some serious firewall mods, looks like it will have to go. If you really want to do something with the 302, look into a stroker kit, should be interesting. I have also contemplated taking the headers outside of the frame rails (thru the fender wells) but not studied if it is feasable. I would not even try to use the A4LD behind a hopped up 302 even though adapter kits are available. Do a complete engine / tranny, should be much easier. I was looking to use a mid 80's engine/OD tranny from a Crown Vic because they were throttle body fuel injection EEC-IV systems with non-electronic AOD transmissions. This setup shouolld be fairly easy to swap into an early 90's explorer without having to massively re-wire the entire engine bay (just remember to get the computer also from the donor).

Thank you for responding, for clarification, I have a question that comes into mind, The complete motor that is offered is for a mustang's covering the years between 1986 through 1993, which year motor and tranny combo do you think will work best with very little electrical wiring as you mentioned in your response?

Thankyou,

The simple answer right now is, I don't know. But, what I would do is get a haynes manual for the Mustang years you mentioned and carefully study it and compare the wiring specs against the explorer. Since both used EEC-IV systems, most of the wiring should be directly adaptable (but the PCM will have to be changed to match the year, engine you select)
Look for things around the ignition wiring, injector wiring, EGR setup, number of O2 sensors, and electronic transmission shift/ converter lockup controls.
Basically, if you go this route, you will need to replicate all the engine control systems on the Mustang year you select, so be prepared to make a few salvage yard runs to find some parts that were on the V8 system, but not on the Explorer. More than likely, if you select the new engine/ tranny from a year model as close as possible to the year of the Explorer, they closer the match will be, except for obvious differences in the basic systems
