Why doesn't someone design some cast-iron free flowing FE headers that will fit our beloved trucks and have them made in China? Probably wouldn't cost too much. I used to be a 'hard-core-buy-American' kind of guy but since nothing makes sense anymore and everything seems to be made in china anyway, why not go with the flow? (good pun?)
Let me get this straight. you want a cast iron free flow header? Cast Iron?
Cast and free flow don't go together. Its heavy, it's porous, it doesn't radiate heat well, its nearly imposable to shape it in such a way that would allow gass to escape with low restriction, It's ugly, and most important, it would cost alot to ship that hunk of iron over seas.
Why not have them manufactor something that could be done in cast? Like new 428 blocks? Bare heads?
Don't like Cast Iron 427 DOHC Bat Wings eh?
They seemed to work pretty good. Only draw back was their weight if I can recollect correctly. They're going for around $2K a set now. If cast iron free flows are so bad, why do ya suppose somebody would shell out $2,000 for a pair in the 21st century?
Moreover, why do ya suppose Shelby ran them when he came in 1-2-3 at LeMans in the mid 60's? Food for thought huh?

In 240/300 engines the cast iron "short" EFI headers from 86-96 are all the rage. Much cheaper than regular headers and almost as good. And don't rust out. I know nothing about V8 engines and even less about the headers. But I note that my V6 taurus EFI engine has cast short headers as well. Must be something good about them.
I realize you are referring to FE motors, I have a 429 in my 65 F100. I just replaced a cracked stock manifold with cast iron manifolds from a 75 Mercury car. I was amazed at how well these look like the will flow. I have always liked headers, but these manifolds look like they will work just fine.
