I have an interesting problem on my 97 Aerostar it goes as follows:
(1) Late spring recharged ac. (probably overfilled) worked fine except for it seems after running ac for about an hour the fan would not blow into cab. Put on vent and after five or so minutes fan would slowly come back to full speed and put on ac and would be fine for an hour and then would have to repeat above. Note the fan could be heard running at full blast but not blowing into cab. Now that it's fall up north here when I put on heat same type of problem develops. The fan slowly stops blowing in cab but you can here it running full blast from under hood. After setting on vent the fan comes on slowly. Does the ac compressor work even in the heat mode and if so where do you disconnect the ac compressor as there seems to be two electrical leads on it, one on the compressor and on above on a small cylinder shaped object.
The A/C will come on in defrost to take the moisture out of the air, it sounds like you have a bad pressure cycling switch (not sure if thats the ford name for it) and the compressor is staying on full time causing the evaporator to freeze up and not allow airflow through it.
That's not really an option. The switch is normally closed and only opens when the pressure on the low side gets too low. If you open it then you have no A/C at all. Verify you have the correct amount of freon. Outside of that, I guess you'll have to change the switch. I believe you will have to have the freon removed first. Good luck.
Well the switch is usually located on the accumulator, which should be the cylinder you talked about, if you pull the the electrical connector on it you it should turn off the a/c. That will at least let you have defrost now that it's getting cold, as far as having a/c in the summer my guess is that you overfilled the system and the pressure is not getting low enough to turn of the compressor, get a set of gauages and see what the high and low side pressure is while running and let us know.
