I'm making some better money now so I'm thinking of fixing up my Aerostar quite a bit. Here's my plan let me know what you think. I use my Aero as a work van and daily driver.
Better Camshaft
1.71 Roller Rockers (I've heard I'll need longer pushrods does anyone know how to measure this?)
New Distributor
Power Pulley
Headers for a 3.0L Ranger with a flowmaster muffler
Port matched upper and lower intake.
Phenolic Spacer between the upper and lower intake
Bigger Diameter Air box tube (Like the K&N kits except home made)
Air shocks in the back
My questions are does anyone know if there is a computer chip for the aero 3.0L?
What brand of shock would you recomend in the front?
Also has anyone hooked up a MSD 6 ignition system to a 3.0L?
Go to wwwford-trucks.com. A guy there Boss 3.0 and a few others have modified there ranger 3.0 quite a bit. They can tell you what rockers to useand I do not think they had to change push rods. Jet and Diablo chips can burn chips for 3.0s and the only headers are by JBL but they are for Rangers and I do not know if the fit Areostars, they are also like $600. Ther are MAF mods that can be done but the head mods are only gasket matching porting unless you pay a machine shop for performance heads. You cam match port the uper manifold to the lower one and gasket match the lower manifold to head ports too. If I was to modify a 3.0 I would get one frrom the junkyard and do everything along with .030 over bore and then put it in. As you know working on the engine is a pain when in the van.
