Yes the OEM plugs are different on each bank, they are not double platiums and since the DIS system uses one coil for two plugs the polarity is different for each plug, thats why you use double platinums for replacments.

There's absoulutey nothing wrong with using bosch platinum +4's in a ranger. 3 ranger's that I've ran over 150k with Bosch +4's were a 4 cyl, 3.0, and 4.0, all are still kick'in, and all still get the same mpg when the plugs were put in, and the mpg is 2-4 better than the stock plugs. My 00 ranger just got a set of +4's put into it's 4.0L...awesome performance. The fact that the plug never has to be gapped due to it's design is what makes it superior to any other plug.
And yes I used to be a Autolite person, till I saw the kind of quality on the last set that I purchased, and took back.
