I need some assistance in finding a person for my english paper. The person has to have done something great during 1940s. I'm just having finding someone with the required amount of resources. Anybody got anyone good?
Could you elaborate alittle more, do they have to be alive or just someone that you can quote from books containing them? I have a relative that was very famous/ now deceased (not wanting to share with everyone-info on) Might be usable ?? ANyway I will check back..
How about Preston Tucker? He didn't sell a lot of cars, but his story is pretty interesting. He also had a lot of innovations for cars of his time. Also, don't forget about Hank the Duece (Henry Ford II). I've read a lot about him, and he was smart in the respect that he surrounded himself with smart people. These are a couple of ideas. Hope they help.
James Bong - Highest Scoring ace in the pacific (38 victories I think) Flew a P-38 named Marge
Paul Tibbets – Man who dropped the Bomb in the Enola Gay
Adm. Nimitz, "Bull" Halsie, Macarthur, Montgomery (British General), Gen. Patton
Gen. Rommell - German that hated the **** party and Hitler that he tried to kill him twice. Was such a good general that he held off the Africa Corps. of the British and Americans with little to no resources. Very interesting person...
Yamamoto - Very smart man that stated after the attack on Pearl Harbor (that he designed) "I fear all we have done was wake a sleeping giant."
Chuck Yeager – Ace in the European theater and Test Pilot (P-51 named Glamorous Glennus)
In 1947 Jackie Robinson became the first black to play Major League Baseball. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers and was born Jan. 31, 1919 in Cairo, GA. In 1947 he becomes a player for the Dodgers. In 1949, he wins the National Leagues Most Valuable Player Award. Jackie died on October 24, 1972 in Stanford, Connecticut. He was featured in TIME Magazine on September 22, 1947.
The Frisbee
Invented 1948
Material- Plastic
Invented by- Walter Morris
During World War II, people had to find ways to have fun. When kids discovered that metal pie plates flew well, tossing them became popular. However, metal plates hurt your hands a lot and made a lot of noise. Then in 1948, Walter Morrison decided to make them out of plastic. They called them flying saucers. Did you know that 2 million Frisbees have been sold in the last 50 years that Ìs more than baseballs, footballs, and basketballs combined!
They have to have done something noteworthy like Jackie Robinson or (wrong decade but still) Martin Luther King. I also have to acquire enough resources to be able todo the paper. I like what I see above, thanks guys. Good ole FTE. -Bill
broncobilliebob, how about Albert Einstein. it may be a little hackneyed, but his contributions to science are still revered today. in my opinion, he is one of the most inventive thinkers of the past three hundred years.

You mean Marty McFly didnt invent it? But I saw him invent it on Back to the Future.
Audie Murphy ....WWII flying ace
Billy Bishop ... Canadian Flying Ace
Murphy was a foot soldier. He was considered the most decorated soldier for some time. Turns out there was a black soldier with just as many. Of course, I can't remember the guy's name, but he is in Arlington not far from Audie.
Book and movie "To Hell & Back" tells Murphy's tale.
Patton alway makes a good write up, Chuck Yeager is another interesting charactor. Stalin is yet another charactor, some people just don't realize that he made Hitler look like an amature when it came to enslaving and killing populations. If it has to be on "race relations" concentrate on how he made his own attempt to exterminate the Jewish race, the Muslims, and the Ukranians.
Do a search on a guy named Richard Feinman, and what all he did during the Manhattan Project (and beyond!). That should meet the timeframe requirement (the 40's). He was a pretty amazing guy with a great sense of humor, and you will find that he did a lot of other great and amazing things during his life.
or maybe he had a role as a fighter pilot in the movies?
Not sure about fighter pilot roles. He did star as himself in "To Hell & Back", and he was in a bunch of cowboy flicks.
Clint Eastwood was a fighter pilot in a '50s Horror flick, "Tarantula" me thinks. Of course, he says about 2 words and you can't recognize him in the flight mask.
