I can't see anything behind my truck when backing up in the dark. I have replaced the FORD bulbs with extra bright ones. The only thing I can think of is to remove the tailgate when plowing. I have seen hitch mount lights, But before I put out $90.00 I want to hear some of your guys ideals or thoughts.
Hey where's my text smilies?
I checked the other posts out. I think I will go with more of a temporary style light. Maybe modify 12volt light or lights that I can get power from my power point in the truck and temp. attach them to my tool box. I've been thinking about the marine spot lights.
I added White Knight hitch mount lights. (2) 50 watters, in black housing, angled slightly out board.. Turns night into day. Even has toggle switch for operation at hitch w/o vehicle in reverse.
I have heavy (but legal) tinted windows and back into my driveway every night. No problems since. Install was very easy. No water problems. Paid $ 75.00 as I recall.
You know, now that you mentioned tinted windows maybe that's why I'm not able to see clearly while backing up . I have factory tint. It all makes sense now. Do these White Knight lights hook into the trailer plug? Can you still use your hitch when lights are installed ?
Steamer: I hard wired (per install instructions) my lights to the existing wire harness leading into my 7 - pin plug receiver. The light housing itself is held in place by the ball hitch mount.
The only mod nec. for me was moving the 7 -pin plug receiver over a couple of inches to an existing hole in the bumper to accomodate the housing location.
Easy 30 min install for me.
Yes, the whole purpose of this design is to use in conjuntion with hitch.
I am sure other units would work fine also but, I selected these over fog lights and others due to hits the fogs can take when in tall brush at my property or when out in the boonies hunting. 2nd truck with these lights installed and no negatives as far as I am concerned.
In addition, no water problems due to rain, car washes or boat launching, etc.

I just added these lights and very dissapointed with them. They do throw out alot of light, but made of very cheap thin plastic which broke after about 20 miles of driving. I had to modify mine with fiberglass to beef up around the mounting bracket. Works fine now. Bought mine for $30.00 off ebay. Would not recommend paying $80.00 from a retailer. Will have to see how well they hold up in freezing weather this winter. My guess is not to good. Also not waterproof for when you launch a boat.
Well steamer sorry you had problems...maybe buying off E-bay had something to do with it...may have been cracked already.
Just FYI: I had mine on my '02...moved it to my '04 (now 3 years in use)...absolutely no problems. In addition, mine has been in the water and mud. Not Launching my boat anymore because it is rotting away in my back pasture but, launch my almost son-in-laws go fast boat and brother's Seadoos often...with no light / water problems at all.
No,the lights are new and the casing was not cracked. Just don't see spending $80.00 on a piece of cheap thin black plastic with two lights installed in it. Hope one day you or somebody else don't jump up in the truck bed and hit the lights, because these lights will not withstand any pressure at all. Not to mention somebody backing into your truck. After all the lights are made for trucks - build them FORD tough.

Just glad to see you admit it is cheap thin plastic. That all I was saying. And your right it will work fine for most applications. But I just can't see this unit holding up in any hazardous conditions for example Plowing snow, 4wheeling and construction sites etc, where it is subject to abuse. A lot off us truck owner’s use are trucks for work and to make money, not just a family vehicle.

I can only post my positive experience with this product. This "cheap thin plastic" product has worked very well for me and others.
