HI,check engine light came on,so off to autozone for a free 0BDII test.It read P0340 camshaft position sensor,so i replaced it and reset the light. After a few miles or so on again. So i thought maybe a bad part(SENSOR)and went for a replacement.A few miles later light again(Check Engine). My question is what next?Does the auxiliary shaft need to be replaced due to some unseen defect.I just dont know about all these sensors but im willing to learn, need to learn and will before it's over.Help Please, any info will be welcomed and thanks in advance.

The camshaft syncronizer "shaft" can indeed break down. It happens on the 3.0L and 4.0L (that's not to say it's a common issue, just that it's possible).
However, I thought that the '95+ 2.3L CMP sensor is mounted to the oil pump assembly. Does your 2.3L even have a synchronizer shaft?
Greetings, Does the OBDII code repeat, P0304 ? If so have all the connectors and wiring been checked back to the control unit, Computer , ? Could you be having a thermal issue where a period of running time is required to generate the failure? I have read here on the site that there are Pin Point Tests that may localize the fault but I'm not sure what the test are or how to find them. I was hoping someone here might be able to give direction to the P.P. Test. Keep us posted. Zapp
Rockledge it has a auxiliary shaft the same as olders models which ran the dist and oil pump, nothing where the dist should be like the syncronizer shaft on the V6's.i was wondering if the belt could have slipped a notch or so and threw the timming off.
