I have an 89 ranger 2.9 that when cold will make a tapping sound when accelerating. This does not happen at idle and does not happen if you just rev the engine in neutral. After about 10 minutes of driving it will completely dissapear. Oil pressure is fine, I have an analog gauge fitted, and this is a rebuilt engine with about 5K on the clock.
It does not sound to be the lifter noise, I had that in the previous engine and this sounds different, more like detonation but not so random.
So why do you guys think? I was looking at maybe a exhaust manifold leak as well but cannot see anything.
