My heater core started leaking on the floor of the truck a few days ago. Knowing that I need to replace it, I was just wondering how hard of a job it was? I've never put one in a Ford truck. Just taking a quick look at it, seems as if the entire dashboard might have to come out! I have put heater cores in cars that took 10 minutes, and other that took 10 hours. Which end of the scale is my Bronco going to be?
Your 90 should be like my 89 and it was very easy. Take the glove compartment out. Drain some fluid into a bucket and then take the 2 hoses loose from the passenger firewall area going into the back of the core. Take the 6 or so screws out that hold the core onto the forewall and then wiggle it back and forth and remamber that you will spill some water so put some towels down first. If you have a Haynes, it explains this very good. Once you get the glove box off, it will start to make sense to you.
Changing heater cores on the Bronco is one of the easiest jobs there is. Say 30 minutes with a long coffee break half way through.
You should consider putting in new heater hoses while you have it apart. It saves doing it later and with the new price of antifreeze do all you can in one job.
