My theory, since I don't have a diagram for the GEM, is that the accessory position is "powering" the chime and the "ground", thru the door switch, turns it on. Removing the "ground" would keep it off.

I discovered that, while in accessory, the driver's door is the only one that triggers the door chime in the GEM. So, splicing in a switch into the door ajar trigger wire (black/yellow) would kill the chime when turned off. This would allow the other functions of the door ajar switch to work normally, when the switch is on. I was told by Dieselmann that the wire was black/yellow for my truck. Not sure about others.

PurerockRacing,
You should be able to verify if this is the correct wire by grounding a test light and probing the wire. It should make the chime come on in accessory with the driver's door shut. I haven't looked for the wire yet, but I think I will be able to access it from behind the kick panel where the wires go out to the door. I, then, plan to wire in a mini toggle switch mounted in the dash.

I wonder what else that wire controls other than that chime? I don't care to ever have that chime going off, so a permanent disconnect works for me, but I don't want to disable my dome lights, etc.

I am pretty sure, if you disconnected it permanently, you would affect your dome lights. This wire is the "signal" to the GEM that door is open. I only want to cut off the "signal" while I have the radio on and the door is open.

I have a 2002 Ford F250 SD, I assume the original post on killing the chime also applies to my truck.

My preferences:

lights on chime is ok
Seat belt chime - don't want
key in,,, door open chime- really really don't want, it looks like cutting the blk/pink wire to ignition switch is the quickest/easiest, and if you would "ever" want it back, a simple butt splice takes care of that ,,, correct ?

'06 Model Update . . .

The '06 has the Blk/red tracer wire attached to the column itself, at the top where the cylinder slides in.
Just unclip it and let it hang in there, no more chimes!

That's an easy one. When the chime sounds because the belt isn't being worn simply push the seatbelt release button. It'll silence the seatbelt chime until the truck is started the next time.

Examining the black/ping wire you will see that it comes up to a small horseshoe plastic retainer that fits onto the bottom of the lock tumbler housing like a set of dentures. Simply slide it out of it's groove and wrap it up with a bit of electrical tape and stash it under the tumbler housing.

I have circuled what I found in my truck. I am having problems taking out the horseshoe plastic retainer. I am also not sure if this is the right thing. Can someone help me out on this? Thanks.

Save yourself a bunch of time and heartache...

cut the wire and quit screwing around, Dan got outta control on this one, the modern-day version of this 'mod' is to cut the black wire with the pink tracer...
