I have recently purchased a '97 f350 crew cab duelly PSD. I absolutly love it. But I am new to the diesel world, and have a few questions. Where is the water filter and how do I drain it. Are there any shop manuels avalible for Powerstrokes? What kind of mods are for a 97 psd?
The water seperator is part of the fuel filter. On the top of the engine is a black cover over the fuel filter and fuel pump. Lift up the hinged cover and the fuel filter is right there, It has a black, plastic top that has "vanes" or slots in the top. On the passenger side of this assembly, under the black cap, is a little lever, sometimes has yellow paint on it. It moves 90 degrees. Move the lever back, and you will seel fuel emitting from the bottom of the engine. Some have a hose that actually runs down far enough that you can out a drain pan beneath it. Others just dump the fuel all over the crossmembers and every where. The water will be the first to drain out, since it collects on the bottom of the filter canister. You only need to let it drain a few seconds to get the water out. Hope that answers one of your questions at least.
Guess I'm the 1st to congratulate you on your purchase of the finest machine on earth, and welcome you to the form.
I'm not sure what you mean by water filter? Maybe water seperater? The water seperater is located under the fuel filter canister, there is a yellow lever that's pointed forward when closed. Standing on pass side, rotate that lever 1/4 turn toward you. Probably want to attach a pc of 5/16 hose to the drain tube below so you can catch the fuel.
As far as mods? You've come to the right place, as long as you have the wallet for it.Some of these guys are outrageous (I can only dream). Try searching the form to get some ideas what you want to do. All I've done is Superchips programer and open element air filter so far. Down pipe and exhaust is next, and the all important gages. I might go kittyless 1st due to the lack of fund.
Search and and dream, others will chime in with more details I'm sure. The link below might help. http://pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/_i...az/index3.html
