I am/was the proud owner of a 1995 F150 4x4. It has 195,000 and the 5 speed. I was just in a wreck and the insurance is trying to screw me. Is this truck worth saving? Approx $2500 body work and only getting $4000 from ins. if I keep it. Frame slightly bent in rear where I was rearended (hitch leaning down). Should I keep the truck or let them have it?
Let them total it, but it back, fix it yourself. I was in a body shop once where a guy was using a sledge (looked to be around 20lb) to straighten a frame and I hate to say it, but he was getting it done. Point is, some thing like that could be done at home if you have the skill and aren't scared to do it. The best way, of course, is to have it straightened on a frame rack. If you can get a bed cheap you're on your way or you could let them have it and use the 4k as a down payment toward a new truck. Either way you go, good luck.
Ditto. If they're willing to give you 4K, take it and bank it. If you really want THAT truck, buy it back from the junkyard and keeping running it. You can live with a wrenched frame as long as it doesn't track sideways going in a straight line. If it does, forget it...look for your next ford.
