What size of jumper cable are you keeping with the truck?

It's my first truck, 2005 1/2ton. And I found that my old paper thin jumper cable may not be enough. So what size of jumper should I keep with the truck? 6 gauge? 4, even 2 gauge?

i keep a set homemade out of 4 guage.
i made a long about a 25 foot set out of welding leads.
its long enough i can pull up behind most veichles on the side of the road and reach past them to jump them
and the 4 guage is heavy enough to jump most of the farm tractors
in my opinion better to have to much then not enough

seems 4 or 2 gauge is the way to go. I totally agree that too much is better than not enough.

sounds interesting to DIY jumper cables. Is it hard to make the connections on the clamps?

the jumpers i made was pretty easy i aslo used an old welding lead and the clamps off a old set of jumpers i just pried the crimps lose and then crushed it back together then brazed the wire to the clamp. works real good i might add.

i didnt think about parking behind a vechil on the road, i use mine in wal-mart parking lot when you can'nt get right next to the car your trying to help. so if i got to be a couple parking spaces away it no big deal.

I don't mess with jumper cables anymore. I've used a jump box for several years now with no problems, and you don't have to rely on anyone else.

I'm with Bill. Even though I still carry some 4 gauge cables, I bought a jump box a couple of years ago and wouldn't give it up for anything.

I fish alot and when someone has a dead starting battery in their boat they usually find it after it is off the trailer and tied up to the dock. With the jump box you can take the battery to the boat rather than having to pull the boat back out of the water and jumping it from the truck.

The one I bought was like $69.00 and has a spotlight and a 300 watt power inverter on the back.

Slightly off topic, but it still amazes how many people don't carry a set of jumper cables. I have had people ask me for a jump with 3-4 others standing there because not one person had cables. Every vehicle I own has a set{including the boat}

Well... as of recently I only had my "grill" mounted jumper cable-kit. With a 30'-0" reach on the cables. Below is a link to something similar to what I have.

http://www.truckntow.com/pc-11330-14...y-duty-25.aspx

But...I have purchased a jumper box as well. I will keep that peaked out while driving in the truck and still have a back-up just in case that is dead.

I have already ran a cable bundle to the tool-box in the bed to keep my D.C. charger for the flashlight and drill going- and I should have few more pairs to wire in for a basic 12v. "peaking-plug".

Once I get back to the states I'll throw up some pictures on my forum profile.
