the best thing to do would be to get a rear end from a 99-up powerstroke and slap it in. they have special u-joints and stuff for that. you may have to move the spring pads, i have done axle swaps before. oh, i got a batter idea, get one out of a chevy hd with a locker. they had the disc brakes, didn't they?? i cant remember. but that would be better anyway because the new fords have a different bolt pattern for the rims!. the chevy's are the same. get a locker and disc brakes all in one. you will need to get an adjustible brake propotioning valve. you can get these out of summit. hope i helped you out. i wouldn't try to convert your axle over, and possibly, you would need a new driveshaft. i'm just telling you some of the problems you may have with the swap. it would still be easier to do than converting yours, thats wut i think about it anyways

I dont know the exact years but I have seen a few one tons and the early 90's Superduty's that had rear discs on em. thought it looked pretty sweet myself and was having the same thoughts as you. I will swing through the junk yard I saw them in and get a year off them for you.
If you really want disk brakes there is a conversion kit out there for the 10.25 Ford its not cheap but its designed for srw applications. The F-Superduty trucks come with Dana 80s with disk brakes but they have 10 bolt dual wheels no way a single wheel can fit. You also are stuck with 4:63s or 5:13 gears they don't come with anything taller.
If you really want a rear axle with factory disk brakes you will have to steal the rear axle out of a E-450 Van they have 8 bolt wheels with disk brakes so jack up a U haul van or your local ambulance remove the rear axle.
As for swapping in a 99 or newer rear axle you will have troubles with the wheels Ford changed the bolt pattern size to a metric 8 bolt pattern so you will have to run different wheels on the back.
I stopped and checked them out to day and discovered what kenworth had said that they are 10 bolt so kinda sucks but they are apretty sweet disc brake set up.
