Anyone know if the front brake pads on my new 04 F150 Lariet is ceramic? I
bought ceramic and went to a Midas shop to have them installed and was told,
after they look it up in their computer, that i had ceramic pads on the truck.i
went to my dealer to find out and they didn't know.I'm getting heavy brake
dust on the front wheels. All the vehicles i've bought in the past,i've change
the pads to reduce brake dust.
Welcome to FTE cworet. I do not know for sure, but I dont think the OEM pads are ceramic. The only good way to reduce the brake dust on these vehicles is to install some Kleen Wheels brake dust shields. I have them on my truck, as do many others in this forum, and they work great. They have reduced the deposits of dust on my rims by probably 95% (no lie). You might want to do a search on these here, to get some more info and where they can be purchased. Hope to see you around the forums.
I don't think that they are ceramic. There has been at least one thread about brake dust, maybe two, and the fix was aftermarket ceramic pads. They really seemed to be reasonably priced, too.
I'm not going to change my pads when they still work fine (I wash it every week-end). Yes, there is dust, but the brakes stop the truck real well.
Probably I'll get the ceramic pads when it is necessary, if the feedback continues to be good. Sorry that I cannot point you to the thread.
Hey Guys: I read someware that if you put on those dust shields it has a tendency to run the disc brakes hot and in return would wear down both the pads and the rotors much quicker?
That might be true on some high end sports cars that generate tons of heat from their braking systems. Its not true for our trucks and suvs. Ive run these on many vehicles, and have NEVER had any issues with them.
I installed ceramic on the front due to dust. There is no more noise which was none, the dust went from 2 days to look ugly to 2 monthes and still not bad. As for the dont stop so hard, on my two previous trucks, 99 F150 and 03 F250, both had over 40,000 miles on them and still had about 1/3 of the pad left, I am easy on brakes and still could not keep the dust down. I paid around $60 and took about 1 hour to change the pads myself. Well worth it.
