Bottom line is that it fell apart.I was thinkin about trading my 95 F150 in on a new one. Now? Not just no but hell no! My wife and 3 year old boy ride in my truck. There is absolutely no way that I will chance thier well-being. One-sided report or not. They say a picture is worth a 1000 words. Well... LOOK!! My Ford pride takes a back seat when it comes to my family. Period! I own nuthin but Blue Ovals and you couldnt give me 2 rocks for one of em. I like my old, stout body style alot more anyway. I guess Ill just keep what I got till that badass new Forty-Niner comes out ....
Question: Exactly how much difference is there between a concrete block and 3500lbs coming at you with a combined speed of 80+ mph?? Answer: When I look at that picture, I dont wanta know!!

Alright everyone. Here is the only way to settle this. Someone is just going to have to buy a new Chebbie, a new Ford, and a new Dudge all equally equipped and then crash them each into a concrete wall at 40 MPH. Then we can figure out which does the best. Personnally I think they are all going to be pretty much trash afterward but who knows. Whoever decides to do this let me know how it works out. I would do it myself of course but I am overseas right now and can't lay my hands on 3 new trucks. lol. Take it easy ya'all.

I think the Insurance Institute should do two of the same pickup before the can label them bad. Think about it if you throw two oranges against a wall do they break the same, no. Also its kind of convenient for the insurance companies to place the most popular vehicle in america to be the worse. Of course insurance companies never screw anybody. Kinda like you pay a higher rate for a brand new vehicle but you dont ever see the rate go down do ya.

I saw Dateline's report. As I see it, the issue really is not what's better- Ford Or Chevy, While the Chevy was better (it should be, it's a newer design) it was still bad compared to the Toyota! When are we in the U.S. going to get beyond the old, no longer viable, wars between Ford and GM and begin to sincerly compete with the Asian based manfacturers? I know we're capable.
I would love to see BOTH Ford nd GM achieve the same reliability and engineering detail that we see from Toyota and other "foreign" manufacturers.

Sure! I'll just go get $90000 out of the bank and try that. Of course, the chances of the bank giving me this money after I drive up in my $325 truck is very unlikely. It'd be easier to put a large concrete barrier on the front of my '82 F-150 and ram brand new trucks in parking lots at 40mph.

Think about one thing. These tests as far as I know have only began just recently with this type of offset crash? Take a truck from 20 years ago and it would probably test worst than a new one would, as far as safety goes at least. Somebody told me a story about one of there relatives who got in an accident a long time back in the 50's or some where around there. Well the cars were still driveable but one guy was dead and the other was pretty messed up. All I am saying is even though these trucks tested poorly on the offset crash, I think they are still safer today than they were before everyone got so safety consious. I don't care avout tests results. I stick with what I like and I don't look for solid concrete walls to run my truck into anyways. I agree with blue70f250. I think we need to start looking at what American car companies we have left. There have been a lot of steel companies shutting down do to too many people using cheap import steel. I don't know I guess after this recent import racing craze that came out of no where I guess I lost it. I better go now.

I know using the 50's was a little far fetched. But my point was is that the vehicles today are made to crumple like cans and protect the people inside. By the way, my mom got into a head on with her old Neon, on a side street. Some retard tried to turn left right in front of her and she ran right into him. The car was destroyed and both airbags went off. She had to go to tharapy for a while. After that she bought her 98 F-150 and will not get into a car again. If she had been in that accident with her truck it would not have been as bad. But take that test and conduct it on a car like a neon or a miata. Those cars would desintegrate. And you thought the truck tests looked ugly.

Using the 50's is a little extreme for an example. Back then they were great built vehicles, but they didn't have any real safety devices, namely seat belts. You can say the trucks today are as safe as you want, but if you choose not to use the safety devices, such as the belts, then you're going to be just as messed up, probably even more, than you would have been back then. Try using the late 70's and early 80's. If you ask me, they are the safest around. They were built solid and they had basic safety devices such as shoulder and lap belts together. If you choose to use them, I think you're safer in one of those old trucks than any truck today, even the ones with airbags. Who cares if the airbag cusions your face if the entire cab collapses on you?

I Now before you open your mouth and accuse me of being a traitor to the American truck, do some thinking and say "Would I want to drive that ##### 2001 F150 and get involved in an accident with a 2001 Toyota Tundra?"
It is impossible to answer this question with out more facts. Crashing a truck against a wall or another vehicle are two completely different things. When you crash a vehicle against a wall the force being applied is coming from its weight. A heavier object will crunch more than a lighter one. When you have a collision between two vehicles, the lighter vehicle will take more of the impact. Let me ask you this question in a head on collision would you rather be in a F150 or a or neon (which performs better in the wall test). I know I'll take the F150.

Lets give Ford some credit here, they earned a 4 out of 5 safety rating for the F150. This proves that this truck is safe in most conditions. It is impossible to design safety for every circumstance. How can you design the engine compartment to crumple when getting hit anywhere on a 180 degree radius.

This test was not completed by a government agency. I find it amazing that they are picking on only one manufacturer on one single test that is only related to the weight of the vehicle. If I were Ford I would be doing some serious investigating on how these tests were performed and press charges against this organization if need be.

After reviewing things a little further I went to the goverment site at:

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ncap/cars/2001Pkup.html

The government results show the opposite scores. The F150 Extended Cab got the highest score out of 23 trucks in frontal and side impact. and the Toyota Tundra got one of the worst scores. There are pictures and explinations for each truck.

I would like to know why the government information is not noted on the tests made by this insurance company. They condemed a vehicle that was rated one of the highest in its class based only on one low percentage crash test. Not only did they unfairly slander Ford, they made it a major media event with out providing all the facts.

As you can see on this message board, this is wrongly causing confusion and effecting peoples decison on purchasing an F150. This agency should be held accountable for misleading the public.

I think that is what is wrong with todays society. Every body is so sue happy and so fast to play the blame game that they can't take responsibility for their own actions. I had a friend who got into a low speed accident with his new Focus. Well all it did was take off his bumper cover and knock out a headlight and some other stupid stuff. He said he was going to sue Ford because his airbags did not go off. The type of collision he was in was not even close to what is supposed to set them off. No one in the car was even hurt or stunned. If the air bags went off somebody then might have gotten hurt. This guy was a real bum anyways, the car wound up getting repo'd while it was at the bodyshop. Ha, ha, ha.... Kind of like when I ran my ranger into a pole goofing off when I was younger. I wasn't going to try and sue the city becuase they put a pole there or sue ford becuase my truck wasn't light pole proof. I just fixed it and learned from my mistake. My point being is that people need to realize that everytime they are out on the road in a motorvehicle they put themselves at some type of risk. Especially these people who are eating and reading and putting on makeup while they are driving. No motor vehicle in my mind is completely safe, and I aknowledge that. Unless your driving a tank. I just do my best to avoid people and incidents.

People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

Ok, but the difference is that if the people that did this test were knowingly misleading the public and all the facts we have attained so far are correct, then they are cutting into Ford's profit margin. This isn't somebody trying to milk a wreck, it's a major corporation trying to retain a good image.
