Rebates?

I might have put this in the wrong place.
But I sold a rentel and wanted to pay off my two week old F-150.
I called the dealer about this and he told me I would loose my $1000 rebate that I got for using Ford Credit.
I can not find this any place in the contract that i signed.
I also called FMC and they said this was dependent on the dealer.
Has any one else had this problem and how can they bill you a $1000 fee for the pay off?
Ron

I have not had this problem but I beleve FMC does not have a penality for paying off early.

On this board I think I read somewhere that you could take the FMC credit and rebate and than refinance with lower interest rate but not to tell the dealer what you are doing.
I also read somewhere else that when in wheeling and dealing tell the dealer that you do not care what the interest rate is in order to get the sale price down a bit because the dealer will make up the differance in interest. Than a couple days after the deal goes through you refinance with a lower rate and the dealer looses. Haven't tried that yet but seems like it would work.

I say you just call FMC and see what the payoff is and if you have the cash wright a check. Or make 2 calls and have one of them be asking if there is a penality for early payoff. I beleve once you drive off the lot the dealer is no longer involved except for the service dept. if you choose so.

I could be wrong in everything I have just said tho. Is there anyone that can either tell me I'm right or if I'm blowing smoke up my you know what.

just pay it off. They can't take a rebate away from you. This has been covered in posts here before. I think the dealer gets some kindof kickback if you stay in the loan for a longer period of time.

Agreed.

They cannot take away the rebate.

There is no penalty for early payment.

That was written on the contract with FMCC that I signed last night.

The sales manager told me if I hit the lottery this weekend and paid off my truck, I still get the $1000.

Just recognize that the dealer may be charged that amount back by Ford. My dealer told me it had to be financed through FMC for the first three payments and then refinanced after that with no penalties to anyone.

Your dealer is wrong. You can pay your loan off at any given time, heck the next day if you wanted to. If you can, pay that baby off and enjoy the ride.
