Sudden Surging
Got a 97 PSD, it wants to surge between 1100 and 1600 rpms while Im driving with a steady foot under no load. It does it on and off when ever it feels like. It will do it at any engine temperature. I drained the filter but its hard to tell when the symptom comes and goes. Does not matter if your doing 10 or 40 mph, if your holding the pedal just above idle or trying to cruise at around 1100 rpms, it wants to rev up a couple 100rps and rev down to the original rpm your driving. The surges arent slow, it will rev up and down every second or so. Just bought the truck and then it started doing this, other than that it runs great plenty of power. all feedback appreciated

I have a 95 psd and it will do that when the screen on the side of the fuel filter is plugged or has crap on it. The computer tries to give it more fuel becuase it doen't have enought then it has too much. When you remove your fuel filter on the right hand side there is a hole, you can use a Q tip to reach in and clean that screen

I have a 99f250 w/psd, and have had the same problem. Mine eventually got worse, and at times would not accelerate when pressing the accelerator. Wound up being the throttle position sensor. Unfortunatly, the sensor can not be replaces without replacing the entire throttle pedal assembly. 5 minute fix $125.00 part.
Not sure if this is the same for you, the fuel filter screen is also a good possibility.
