Well, I just finished my 331 build today and just about all I can say "holy cow this thing is fast". It's a good feeling when you turn the motor over for the first time and it fires up.
I was unaware of the power that can be squeezed out of these motors. One thing I did find out is that going fast isn't cheap, but in the end I think it was worth it. The motor has decent road manners until about 4000 rpms then it's like a whole different motor. After a little warm up time, I threw the hammer down and the motor didn't stop pulling until 9200 rpm's. Truth be known, it's a little scary to drive.
Here's the setup, it isn't cheap but.....
302 "Sportsman" block
World Roush 200 heads
Lunati 290/300 roller cam, roller lifters, roller rockers
331 stroker kit, forged pistons, crank and rods
Dynomax headers
Edelbrock Performer RPM
Holley 570
MSD ignition, coil, 6A box
9mm Ford Racing wires
balanced rotating assy.
electric fan
main stud girdle
2500 stall, into a C4, into a 3.70 posi
In the end I don't feel so bad about working two jobs. Now I'm left scratching my head wondering what I'm going to do with a 450hp farm truck. I guess I'm going to have find a few chebbies or imports and do a little...........
I was wondering if I could do that. I've been looking for an excuse to buy a digital camcorder. I'll post a sound/video clip when I can. The cam really makes the motor sound mean.
Max power is between 6k and 7K. 9200 felt like the very limit, it might have been able to break 10,000 but I won't be trying again for a while. I don't want to ruin my new motor. The motor is crammed into a 1968 F100. The truck just rolled over fifty thousand miles, it was owned by an old guy and he only drove it to the feed store and back.
I did put a new set of BF Goodrich radial TA's on the back a couple of days ago. It still just lights them up though. I guess no more driving in the rain for me.
It is inviting disaster but the bottom end and block were made for abuse. I don't think I'll press my luck though. Give me about a week and I'll post some pictures to go along with the other rolling money pit in my gallery.
Kind of a waist using Roush 200 heads and then using a Edelbrock Performer intake. I have had those intakes on my flow bench and only got around mid 160s in CFM. A Torker or Victor Jr would do alot better.
That is some good info Turbo, I've been thinking about a new intake ever since I broke a bolt off in my Edelbrock intake. I may do some digging around, and get a torker or something like it. After all, projects are never done they just get put on hold from time to time. Peace
I havent had Torker on the flow bench but did have a Vr Junior it did 208 FM attached to my heads flowing 235 at .5 lift on one of the bad runners an end runner. Didnt flow a good middle runner.

I wasn't talking about the bottom end. The valvetrain will be the failing point at that RPM
