Question Flowmaster and no cat???

Well I have 5.4 SD with a smooth 3in Y-pipe and dual 3in exhaust exiting after each rear wheel, sounds ok but still like all the rest of the SD's. So I was thinking of ditching the cat and installing a Flowmaster 40 series in place of the Y-pipe. Has any one else done this? I know it's illegal to take off the cat and all, but around here there is no testing of any kind. I know it's the big converter that gives these things there sound so buy ditching it and going to the 40 series will that give me that real V-8 truck sound??? Or is it still going to sound like the rest of the 5.4 SD's????? Thanks for the help!!!

It'll sound better... but it'll smell terrible... Get a high flow cat and a flowmaster (I prefer magnaflow, but to each his own) and put both on there, then it wont sound like all the others

I have just a 40 series Flowmaster on mine and it's loud enough for me. Even has the infamous flowmaster drone at 1700 to 2000 rpm's on the highway.

So you are saying you have no cat as well? Running any pipes behind the flowmaster or just dumps or what? Thanks!

Stock exhaust with cats, just replaced the muffler. Loud enough for me

Just don't throw away the cat if you remove it. You may need it some day...
