Hey guys I noticed Ford rangers sales have been suffering for the last few months. I was wondering why? Looks like people are getting rid of there rangers for something else. Give me your reasons Rangers are not selling to well?
My guess is other company's development and surpassing of the Ranger. There aer far too many other options out there that are equally as good if not better than what Ford can put out (don't get me wrong, I am and always will be a Ford buyer). Many of the other companies trucks come with a MUCH MUCH better warranty (Nissan, Toyota, heck even Dodge ugh..). If someone came up to me today and said they would buy me a new mid-sized truck of my choice...I have to say I probably wouldn't choose a Ranger.
i would have done , well exactly what i did do. i bought a 10 year old truck last year with 63,000 miles on the clock. while a little overpriced @ 10,000 it was still better than 22,000 for a new one. and i dont have that vacuum-actated 4wd. i prefer the obsolete ttb front end and though the pushrod 4.0 isnt the high-horsepower the ohc is, its plenty for me. i think new trucks are just getting outrageous on price. and the competetion has passed ford in the bells-and-whistles dept. and the popularity of crew cab models has gone up, the sport-trac is just ugly (i.m.o.) in a year or so ford will probly update the ranger and get back in the game, ...and i'll still be driving a '93 thats good enough for me. Dave.
One of the bigger local Ford dealerships near here has new Ranger reg cabs for $8,700 (base model), after rebates. Just down the street near that same Ford dealership, a Dodge dealership has the new Dakota Sport reg cabs for $8,900 with auto/and Sport Package.....................I've been seeing lots of new Dodge trucks on the road lately.
While looks shouldn't be the major factor, I think it applies here. Not to say it ugly, it's a fine looking little truck, but it's competition has gone thru major updates. Most people consider newer (after the first year) models automatically better. The Ranger as good as it is, is over a decade old and showing it's age looks-wise, especially the cab area. Plus, the general trend lately has been more aggresive looking vehicles which, in most cases, does not include the Ranger. They don't seem to be selling too bad. If in the market for an '05 small truck it would either be the Ranger or the Taco depending solely on which drove better.
While on the subjects of looks, I really think that they should have stayed w/ the 00' model front-end to the end. It just fit the rest of the truck far better IMHO, even after giving the new ones time to grow on me. But hey, I'm about to fly 2K miles to buy an '83 Rabbit, what do I care about looks? Stick a diesel in one, and I'll take it over any other truck (diesel or otherwise), right now. Please? Are you listening Ford?
While I like my 01 Ranger, IMO, they need a update to the overall look of the Ranger. Ford has been beating this drum long enough while others are busy bringing out new designs. I'm betting Ford will do something soon with the Ranger now that they have a re-designed F-150 (great job Ford!). I'll keep driving my 01 till it drops but hope when it does drop there is a new Ranger design to purchase as I hate buying the same vehicle (design wise) twice.
A agree with everything above.
I was in a dealership two days ago test driving a new Ranger and the salesman was the rudest, pushiest jerk I've ever met. No matter what I said about the truck, he had to argue and tell me why I was wrong and the new truck was perfect. Even if I had decided to trade up to a new truck, I wouldn't have done it there with that jerk. But instead I'm getting a leather/ loaded 2002 F150 XLT (for the price of a new loaded Ranger).
All I can comment on is what goes on in my part of the world. If you are looking at a new truck, there is alot of Dodge on the road. But then again, when you look in the used car lots there is alot of Dodge. I find that people who have the Ford's and Chev's don't give them up that easily. Ask people, who have had their Dodge Dakoda's for 4 or 5 years, wheather they would buy another one. Dodge does look better, Ford lasts longer. As far as the imports go, they make a good truck and you will be hard pressed to find a Toyota truck owner who will buy anything else.
I guess really if you look at the Ranger truck. Its 24 years since the first one came out. It has definitly been the most popular little truck on the road ever. It will definitly get a redesighn and it still will be the top selling little truck. Rangers have a great reputation that will always be with them. And whats funny there are still a lot of mid to late eighties Rangers around here that are still being used and running good. That says it all.
i bought a 2004 ranger at the end of march and i love it. i personaly think it is a much better looking truck than all the rest. it looks like the full sized super duty int the front. i have dropped it 4'' in front and 5'' in back and installed 17'' eagle alloy wheels. i have had many compliments on the truck. the new colorado the chevrolet is selling looks ok in the front but the sides are terrible. i also read that the ranger has outsold all other manufactures small truck for i think it said 17 years. of course that was the brochure that came with my truck.
My 1990 Ranger with 190,000 miles, paint peel, worn out seats, out of date bed liner, and drooping mirrors had a note on it the other day by someone offering to buy it...
I didn't respond.
