vibration... then no vibration
i drive a 77 f250 2wd 300. since the beginning of the summer my truck has been vibrating from something in the drive shaft or the rear end area. around the end of summer it was making horrible clunking and squeeking noises and the vibration was getting worse. but we replaced the driveshaft with one from the junkyard. the splines on the original shaft where it connects to the carrier bearing were pretty much destroyed. after the swap it eliminated the clunking and squeeking. however, it was still vibrating (not as bad, but still a little)and it has been about a month since then, and the vibration has just gotten worse. im pretty sure when the driveshaft was replaced they used the u joints from the original... which had been replaced a year or 2 earlier. last weekend was the first time it had rained in quite some time around here. during and after the rain the vibration has completely stopped. it was dry yesterday and it was still running smooth. i havent drove it since then. do you guys have any ideas on what the problem could be? sounds to me like the water was lubing something up...
thanks
if it isn't it could be that your pinion is binding against the ring gear. If not try to replace the u joint with a new one, they could of damaged it taking
it off the old one and putting it on the new driveshaft.
