i have a 2002 ford explorer 4.0 it has a rattle sound that happens at 2000-3000 rpm range i have had it two the dealer twice once they replaced the timing belt tensioners the second time they claimed they could not hear the noise. any ideas what this noice could be
i can hear the sound both while driving and while the explorer is in park, however it is worse while i am driving. While it is in park i can't even hear some times. Also after the dealer ship changed the oil the sound went away for a while, but it is know back.
it sound like it is coming from the center of the motor and also towards the passenger sound i can't really track it down while it
Good point catfish! The heat shields on my cats did the same thing and I just tore them off. The shields on my muffler also came loose and I ripped those off too.
The Timing chain cartriges need replacing. they probably changed the front one and not the back one and got paid for the whole job. the front goes first then the rear will rattle slightly. a pain to do the back (pull the engine)
i took my explorer to another dealer and they said that there was nothing they could do and that this is just what the motors do. they also said that mine is one of the quiter rattles that they have heard. If this is true this sucks or the dealers her are really lazy.
