Check your yellow pages and look for a truck spring shop. I can name two near me in Cincinnati - any of them can do the job. They can also add or remove a leaf if you want it done - any number of possibilities.

I have a related question - is it better to have the springs re-arched or to just buy new ones? New 1/2 ton springs are about $200 a set.

my springs where in good condition, they only had about 60k on them......the center bolt is rusted beyond recognition. if i didnt think the bolt may fail, i would have just re-installed them as they sit. but if its gona cost 100 bucks to change the center bolt.....i might as well just spend the extra 100+ on a new set. my only fear is getting a spring that is substandard to the factory springs.

this truck was tough in factory form. its had 2 tons in the bed a few times and it hauled it with ease.

anyone use these guys?

http://www.espo.com/

JC whitney also has the springs for about 109 per side

http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/...0101&langId=-1

anyone know what manufacturer these springs are coming from?

you only need a c-clamp, a bolt and nut and new u bolts.

did mine in 1 hour and about 1/2 hour getting parts.

i have the number for the u-bolts if you need it.

just do it yourself.

there isnt a substantial amount of pre-load on them?

i did my 89 jeep with c-clamps....i guess its just the size of the 1 tons springs that is a little intimidating.

i was going to re-use the original u-bolts. they were in good condition.

i only had one c-clamp when i did mine, if i remember right i had truck on stands and a large floorjack on axle. i put clamp on springs, cut ubolts because the first nut broke off so i just cut the second one. took centering pin to home depot to get bolt and nut, bolted up spring, i think i used another floor jack because i had only one c-clamp. had to manhandle the axle around some. rest was easy. i guess two c-clamps may help. it was not hard. oh, i greased all the leafs.

write if you need u bolt numbers. you may need them.

if its out of the truck you dont even need a c clamp. just a center bolt and nut. just lay the leaves on the side an push the center bolt thru them one at a time then just tghten it and cut the excess off

Most auto parts stores have a center bolt kit around 12" long that you just tighten down and cut the excess off as fordman 300 says.

I bought new leaf springs from jcwhitney part#zx975256x (they had a deal on all orders over $125 was free shipping till end of sept. and I couldn't pass it up) they have 5 leafs and the original ones had 4 so I fugured since I was gonna be doing it I might as well step up. The old springs was wore out and these new springs really make a difference. Truck rides better and I can put some weight in the back without the truck squatting. Before even my fourwheeler would squat it a little and it weighs 500 pounds or so. IMO it was money well spent. Now they was a bit of a pain to get off and put the new ones on
