changed oil two weeks ago with no problems. filled w/ 13 qts to lowest end of dipstick line. opened hood yesterday to check oil level and noticed some oil spray residue on the underside of the hood, dead center by the windshield.
Question: when I tightened the filter cap, I was afraid of overtightening. Don't have a torque wrench. the lip of the cap is machined to appear to me that the cap can be tightened until it will go no more, is this true? So at this point I don't know whether to tighten it until it stops or back it off.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I'm not a tech but have changed my 6.0 oil & filter about 11 times- Most recently yesterday. I tighten the cap down until it stops although I do not torque it down hard. You may want to back it off and check to be certain the rubberband seal is in the correct position then tighten it down again. My $02 worth.
Good luck.
The lid should be tightened until the plastic rim just contacts the metal housing, then STOP. The seal is made by the o-ring farther down the threads, not by the lid rim contact on the housing (like the old fuel filters were). So do it visually, not by torque or feel.
Zon.. is it wet around the filter cap? The oil may actually be coming from the CAC tube where it connects to the Manifold albow. this will blow oil on the hood and will appear as if it came from the oil filter. (see Pic in my galley of CAC tube). Wipe everything off and then see if it reappears in a few days then check for oil around the filter cap and the CAC tube,,
