i bought my ranger up in colorado. when i got home in texas i took a little more time to read on it a little. i noticed the dealer tag said it was set for high altitude. what is it that they set? i understand all the air being thinner and stuff, but what on the motor has been changed?
when i came back down to texas the truck runs like my cat running from my dog. hauls butt! when i go back up to colorado it runs still good, but not like when its in texas.
you guys know anything that would help me understand? seems like it being set for high altitude i have much better performance when i am in texas. i would think if i put a k&n filter in there i would realy have something.
I'am not sure if your truck would run better with the high altitude setting in texas or set for texas but I know that you would probly get better gas milage if it is set richer for the high altitude, I've heard that if you unplug your battery at the new altitude (and this is where I'm not exactly sure)from 30 min to 24 hours this will reset your computer air/fuel settings. I tried this because I moved from the san francisco bay area to laramie wyoming which is going from sea level to 7000 foot elevation. I unfortunatly couldn't tell a differance because I had a full load of personal belongings when I did it and didn't have a base Idea of how fast my truck was until I unloaded it and by then I had already done the battery unplug. But I did talk to a guy with a very fast mustang up here and he said that ford has a sensor that will just change over time with driving at the differant altitude. But the battery unplug is worth a try and the longer you do it for the more likly you are to have a good out come. Hopefully you will have a better change in power than I did and all I can say is I wish I was back at sea level!
