Air filter conversion

A friend told me there was an article on this web site about changing the air filter on a 7.3 diesel that would increase mpg. Where do I find it?

Click HERE to see how I did mine. I used a 6" long (or so) piece of 4" exhaust pipe inserted into the factory hose to the factory airbox, pushed into the "snout" on the air filter and clamped on with a constant torque clamp. Seems to work fine.

I plan on eventually getting the TYMAR setup as it is a more professional installation but mine has been fine for over three years - one of those things I will do when I get a round tuit, I suppose.

Thanks for the info. I already have a K&N, and have reprogramed the chip for max mpg and power. Do you think this filter would do any more. Not that I am complaining, the truck runs great, especially since using the chip programer.

You might want to keep tabs on the intake tubing with the K&N filter setup - there have been several who have had problems over time with the K&N allowing dirt past the filter (the "pores" open up over time). I prefer the pleated paper like I have just to be sure.

Thanks for that info. I'll check it, but the K&N is new, and probably hasn't had the problem yet. Sounds like I ought to consider the paper though.

Thanks

If the K&N is a drop in replacement then you should seriously consider removing it. The flange on the filter is not thick enough to properly seal in the factory air box which could allow dirt to get to your turbo. That gets expensive quick, the filters like Kwik, Believer, and myself have done are cheap insurance that won't happen. As an added plus they flow really well.
